C2J Weekly: "Blind Eyes, Part 1"

This is the first of a twelve-part series, "His Eyes." In this series, I'll be observing how our eyes seem to respond to the light and perhaps we may be able to get a better idea of how they should work. It is my hope that with His eyes, we will be able to see the path on which we run, thereby learning how to effectively run this race.

In John 1:5, as we are learning about the birth of Christ from a more abstract perspective, John determines that darkness, which we live in, cannot understand the nature of light. This concept can be extended momentarily to show that when we are not believers, we cannot comprehend any aspect of light. We were like slaves, bound to the darkness, unable to come into the light. Yet He did not leave us there; He broke our chains, freeing us from the wages of sin, giving us life abundant in Him.
If a man has been blind from birth, can he know what the color purple looks like? Is not everything around him different than how he perceives it? Similarly, for those that do not believe, it is possibly impossible for them to realize what is light. Yet, it is a scary thing when one has the ability to understand light, but refuses to do so because they feel a false safety in the darkness. How terrible it is to live life, simply going through the motions, as if it were a blur, with no real pleasure or lasting accomplishment because you barely even touched the surface of the water.
Yet for us, we don't have to live like that. We have the gift of sight. If we are blind, it is by choice, by our will. I was blind, but now I see. So open those eyes, that you may reach out to the blind, the mute, the deaf, and the hurting. Gain strength through Him and heal the wounded, defend the widow and orphan, giving them the life He gave you.
So as a believer, it is not only in your power to call for sight, but also to use it for the kingdom. So don't use the blind eyes of your past, but take for yourselves the eyes He gave you, fashioned with His hands and purchased for you through His blood. It is my exhortation to you, that though the world may be blind, that you will receive your sight, take in the beauty of His world and move to redeem what we have traded for our worldly pleasures.
