Food4thought: "Can You See?"

Barren
Knavish
Resistant
Emotionless
Odious
Numb

This is the state of my world
This is the state of our world

Tell me things will get better, please I need to hear those words
Tell me you will try to help, for I suffer every time I see another life lost
Can you see the starving people?
Or are you too noble to get on your knees to feed them
Can you see the dying people?
Or are they merely bags of water, taking up space
Can you see the little boy begging for life?
Can you see the frightened girl unable to raise her voice?
Can you see the man shaking as he holds the knife?
Can you see the woman regretting her choice?
Does it pain you to be reminded of how the children feel
Then why do you still sit there, simply listening
Do you feel compelled to save the man from himself or comfort the woman
I only ask because I see no reaction in you
As I look out of the window of my house
I cringe and cry, paralyzed by the chill of their pain
I take a child into my house, giving him anything I can
Yet it will not feed all of them
They are still miserably crawling around, desperate and destitute
I need you to help me help them
For I cannot comfort them all
I need you to love them like they were your own
For I too am frail and my resources are finite
But first, I need you to see this broken world.
